School Admissions
A Great Start Begins Here: Welcoming Young Learners into a Nurturing School Community
Thank you for your interest in Diamond Wood Community Academy. We are a Nursery to Year 2 school, and we are proud to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
We understand that the admissions process can sometimes feel overwhelming. If you’re unsure about any step, please don’t hesitate to contact our school office. We’re always happy to help.
Please Note:
You will see that our 2026–2027 Admissions Policy is published on this page. Although we are currently in the 2025–2026 academic year, schools are required to share their admissions arrangements for the following year in advance.
This policy applies to children starting school in September 2026. For example, those applying for a place in Reception.

If you would like to see the 2025–2026 policy or are unsure which version applies to your child, please contact the school office.

Nursery Admissions
Applications for our Nursery are managed directly by the school. Children are eligible for 15 hours of free early education and care starting the term after their third birthday.
We currently offer:
-
Five morning sessions (3 hours each)
There are generally three entry points into Nursery each year: September, January, and after Easter (subject to place availability). For more information on start dates and availability, please speak to our school office.
To apply for a Nursery place at Diamond Wood Community Academy, parents must complete Registration Form N and return it to the Main School Office.
Admissions Priorities
Places are allocated according to the following criteria, with children admitted in age order (oldest first) within each group. Admissions are processed on a termly basis and depend on place availability. Children with special educational or social needs may be given additional priority.
-
Children in public care (Looked After Children)
-
Children living within the school’s Priority Admission Area (PAA) who have an older sibling attending at the time of admission
-
Other children living within the PAA
-
Children living outside the PAA with a sibling already attending
-
Other children living outside the PAA
Please Note: Attending our Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception class. Parents must apply separately for a school place through Kirklees.
Infant School Admissions (Reception – Year 2)
Children can start full-time school in Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.
If your child was born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, they are eligible to start school in September 2026. You will need to apply for a school place by 15th January 2026.
All school place applications for Reception (and in-year admissions) must be made through Kirklees Council online
