Parent comments on how we can further improve

Head of School’s Response

Yes, the school holidays should be taken at any time of the year.  Whatever they miss should be given with the child to take with them on holiday (worksheets so they don’t fall back).

We are not able to authorise holidays during term time. Holidays should be taken where possible in the allocated holidays. In exceptional circumstances, when children have had to take extended leave, homework is always provided.

More activities for children after school.

We currently work with external agencies to provide after school clubs for the children. There is an after school club on most days and lunchtime clubs are also available for the children.

More 1:1 help in school.

Where a child needs additional support, one-to-one help will be provided. This may also work in small groups, to gain further targeted support. Where there is an SEND concern the SENDCo will be in touch and referrals to other agencies will be made to further support your child.

Change the time of closing the gates should be for a 9.30am start.

Arriving on time is extremely important in order for your child to start the day well and in a routine. Every day, after register, phonics takes place which your child needs to attend. If the gates were closed later, it is likely that children would miss vital learning in their day.

I would not change anything but parent’s parking on the pavement, school needs to make strong rules about parking during school hours.

Myself and Mandy Farrar (Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer) will patrol the streets on a morning, where possible, reminding parents about safe parking. We have strong links with the local PCSO’s which I have informed of your concerns.

96% of parents/carers would recommend this school to other parents.

99% of SEND parents/carers agree that their child is well supported in school.

99% of parents/carers agree that the school has a good reputation in the local community.

Letters and Newsletters are still the most useful sources of information to parents/carers.

Overall, not a high number of parents/carers are accessing the website.  The address is: www.diamondwoodacademy.co.uk
