Severe Weather and School Closures
In rare circumstances, the school may need to close at short notice. Any decision to close the school is always made with the safety and wellbeing of pupils, families and staff as our highest priority. We understand that closures can be disruptive, and we will always aim to give parents and carers as much notice as possible.
Reasons for Exceptional Closure
Exceptional closures may occur due to circumstances beyond the school’s control, including but not limited to:
-
Severe weather (such as snow, ice, flooding or extreme heat)
-
Health and safety concerns
-
Building or site issues (for example, loss of heating, power or water)
-
Staffing emergencies
-
Public health guidance or emergency situations
Each situation is carefully assessed, and closure will only be considered when it is not safe to remain open.
Safety and Safeguarding
The safety and safeguarding of children is always our top priority. We will not ask families to travel to school if conditions are unsafe, and we will not keep the school open if we cannot ensure appropriate supervision and care for all pupils.
How We Will Communicate With You
If the school needs to close, we will:
-
Contact parents and carers as early as possible
-
Share information via:
-
The school website
-
Text message or email (Arbor App)
-
Other usual school communication channels
-
It is essential that the school has your up-to-date contact information at all times.
Please inform the school office immediately if your phone number, email address or emergency contact details change.
During a Closure
If the school is closed:
-
Children should not attend school on that day
-
Further information, including reopening details, will be shared as soon as possible
-
We will keep families informed if the situation continues
Working Together
We thank parents and carers for their understanding and cooperation during exceptional circumstances. By working together, we can ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
